What is transcendence? How do we create an assemblage? How do we arrange forms utilizing variety? How does Nevelson's Sky Cathedral elevate a spiritual environment? This project combines 3D forms using a variety of shape, space, and texture in an assemblage. The surface is painted white to create unification. How does the act of creation help us to transcend our environment?

What do you value? Watch the videos and create your own currency centered around your value system. This will be created with mechanical stencils, texture plates, and free hand work in colored pencil. The design will utilize a limited color palette. It must include "In God We Trust," borders, framework, currency amount and name, stippling, shading, and converging lines. Each artwork should incorporate the E's & P's and focus on Unity and Pattern. Why are our nation's political and economic currency tied to its spiritual faith?

Watercolor Flower Due: 10/14 View these tutorials and find a royalty free flower that you would like to create. Have the image approved in an email. Remember to practice watercolor washes on scrap paper and make sure that the paper fully dries between applications of color to prevent blurring. Borrow any materials that are needed. |

Use these tutorials to help you render the items with voluminous luminosity. Add some extra colors to heighten the emotion of flavor of the imagery. Keep an extra piece of paper under your working hand to keep it clean and cover your work to keep it from smearing. |

Oil Pastel Landscape Due: Create a unique landscape using oil pastels. Practice on scrap paper first. Be sure to clean off your pastels and have a piece of scrap paper under your working hand. The best oil pastels have a variety of impasto (thick), crisp lines, nice blended gradients, and sgraffito (scraping). Keep a scrap paper on top of this artwork as well to keep it from smearing. |

Jeweled Cross Design Due 12/1 Create a preliminary Jeweled Cross Design Plan on grid paper for your up coming project. The design should be symmetrical and matching on both sides. The dimensions of your cross should be 7"x10" with an internal thickness of 1"-2". Your narrowest areas should be no less than 3/4" to prevent breakage.
