Sketchbook Assignments
Signed Syllabus Due: 4/13
#1 Due: 4/13 Butterfly Dreams
Practice creating thin washes of color and gradients on scrap paper first. Please create a paper mask to assist with the wing symmetry and trace the outline.  Separate the lines of the wings. Add color using color pencils inside the shapes with values and gradients. Don't forget to leave areas white for highlights.  Add black last.

#2 Due: 4/20 Beach Scene
Create your own beach scene by viewing these tutorials. Mix and match these items and feel free to add your own things to make this image yours. Add a full range of values from light to dark for full points. Using charcoal pencils on watercolor paper.
#3 Due: 4/27 Cupcake Funfetti Drawing
Create a full page unique cupcake treat artwork with any color combination frosting. Feel free to add sprinkles or a cherry.  Start light and layer colored pencils to get the best blends. Leave some areas white where the highlight would be.
#4 Due: 5/4 House Renderings
Chose one of these drawings and create something similar to their likeness. Try some cross-hatching techniques  and shading on scrap paper first. Be sure not to smudge the your work.
#5 Due 5/11 Still Life Renderings
Draw from either of these two still life tutorials. Feel free to draw a different flower in the second video. Make sure you have a vast range of lights and darks in your value set. Remember to keep your highlights white and deeply shade your darkest values.
#6 Due: 5/18 Pen and Ink Drawings
Chose one of these pen and ink drawings and create something similar to their likeness. Try some cross-hatching techniques on scrap paper first. Be sure not to smudge the ink.
#7 Due: 5/26 Oil Pastel Vistas
Create a landscape using oil pastels.  Practice on scrap paper first. Be sure to clean off your pastels and have a piece of scrap paper under your working hand. The best oil pastels have a variety of impasto (thick), crisp lines, nice blended gradients, and sgraffito (scraping). Keep a scrap paper on top of this artwork as well to keep it from smearing.
