What is non-local color? What is synesthesia? Non-local color is when an artist makes color choices randomly and not the color an item would be naturally. Synesthesia is a condition where people can see, hear, feel, and taste colors. Their senses are linked together. Watch this video to learn more about the artworks of Silberzweig and create a selfie with whatever media you have.
M.C. Escher's Tessellation Project
What is a tessellation? A tessellation of a flat surface is the tiling of a plane using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps. Learn about the artist, M.C. Escher, by watching the video. For this project, create one full paged tessellation artwork by viewing the tutorial. Please color it skillfully using good craftsmanship with crayons, colored pencils, or markers. Complimentary colors work well. They are opposites on the color wheel. The game is just a bonus. Outlining the shapes in black ink/marker looks best.

Draw and shade this following the curvature of an apple on the correct paper. Don't forget to darken the deepest shades for a wide range of values. Leave your highlight white. |

#3 Vasarely's Op Art Due: In Class
View these tutorials on artist Victor Vasarely. He was a genius at creating illusions in Op Art. Get to know this artist's work and choose one of the tutorials below. Create one of the optic illusions with with color. Please use whatever media is available to you. Pay close attention to the pressure used when applying the media of each triangular area. It is light or left white in the center. As you color, use light pressure and gradually get more solid toward the edges of the triangle. This creates the illusion that the paper has folds. |
